Principal Welcome

Principal Welcome
Otis Mascot

September 1, 2020

Dear Otis Orchards Families,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal of Otis Orchards Elementary. My name is Cheryl Fried and it is a true honor and privilege to be part of such a wonderful learning community that has rich traditions for education and the students that attend Otis Orchards. Throughout the year, I look forward to learning more about the community and the students of Otis.

As we look forward to the reopening for the 2020-21 school year, the East Valley School District wants to make sure the health and safety of our students, staff and families is a priority.  Over the past few months we have been working very diligently to ensure that our building is safe and the necessary systems and procedures are in place as students and staff return to the building.

This year we will kick the school year off by holding parent/teacher conferences on September 9, 10 and 11. These conferences will be set up by the classroom teachers and an option of Zoom or in-person will be offered to each and every family. Each family will receive a Sign-Up Genius invitation to schedule a conference time that best first your needs. During your scheduled time you will be provided with an outline of the hybrid model that is specific to your child's weekly schedule. In addition, students will check out their technology device, receive a take home school supply kit (if needed), as well as student login and password information. Teachers will also provide an overview of the safety measures that we have put into place. Please allow enough time to fill out the attestation paperwork, as well as take a moment to have all members of the family to have their temperature check upon arrival. We ask that you limit the number of family members that attend the conference so that we can continue to follow social distancing guidelines.

The East Valley School District will be providing free breakfast and lunch to ALL students through December 2020. Even though breakfast and lunches are free, we encourage all families to still fill out the free and reduced lunch paperwork and return it to the office. This year, breakfast and lunch will be delivered to the classrooms; however, if you choose to send your child with a cold lunch this is an option as well.

In closing, please be mindful as we navigate this pandemic and the reopening of our school. Please remember that masks, attestation forms and temperature checks are mandatory upon entry of the building. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces and we are excited to have the opportunity to welcome all of you back to our school.

Most Sincerely,

Mrs. Cheryl Fried
